Withdrawals & Refunds

For students in our self-paced course sections:

To withdraw from a NetMath course, students must submit a completed Change of Status Form, select "Drop Course" and fill in relevant information. Withdrawals and refunds are processed by the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL). Until the Change of Status form is submitted, students will remain enrolled in their course. Below is a summary of the withdrawals and refunds policy.

For high school students enrolled in a 9-month term, the refund period is based on the length of time between the student's NetMath course registration date and date of submission of the Change of Status form. The percentage of tuition refunded decreases on a monthly basis from the registration date.

For adult students enrolled in a 16-week term, the pro-rata tuition refund is calculated based on the timeframe between the student's NetMath course registration date and the date of submission of the Change of Status form. Due to the open-enrollment nature of the courses, they do not fall within the standard University parts of term which have established refund and withdrawal schedules.

  • Adult students have 10 weeks from the registration date to withdraw from the course and still receive a partial tuition refund.

  • The effective drop date is the date the Change of Status form is received in our office. Any refund calculations will be processed based on this date. Note: Course withdrawals typically take a few days to process.

  • Once the final exam is taken, the course is considered to be completed and no withdrawals will be processed.

  • The pro-rata refund policy is always effective regardless of whether a student did or did not begin a course. For questions about withdrawing from NetMath courses, contact us at netmath@illinois.edu

  • Day counts in the table below represent calendar days, not just workweek (Monday – Friday) days and are based upon the registration date of the course.

  • Students may withdraw from our 16-week courses at any point in the course prior to sitting for the final exam. Such withdrawals will not be recorded on an Illinois transcript and no grade, including a “W”, will be recorded on the transcript.

This table serves as a guide for estimating tuition refunds based on approximate withdrawal dates. Once registered, each student will receive a refund schedule that reflects the specific dates by which they should withdraw to qualify for partial tuition refund. Once a withdrawal is processed, a confirmation email will be sent to the student listing any tuition refund the student may be entitled to receive.
